The Tennessee College for Women Collection consists of 2.5 linear feet of materials dating from 1905 to 1993. The bulk of the collection consists of publications documenting student life at TCW throughout its existence and offering important resources for historians interested in higher education for women in Tennessee during the first half of the twentieth century. Other materials document the work of the Alumnae Association, primarily from the 1970s to the 1990s.

The Tennessee College for Women was established in 1905 by the Tennessee Baptist Convention. It was chartered by the state legislature in the same year and opened its doors in September 1907 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It continued in operation until 1946, when it was merged with Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. That merger was revoked in 1951; the assets of TCW were subsequently transferred to Belmont College in Nashville the same year. From the description of Collection...
